When testosterone is low, often times the hormone cortisol increases. This may lead to increased bodyfat, especially in the abdomen. Prolonged increased levels of cortisol put the body into survival mode and increase the production of fat cells and reduce metabolism to store food for later use and also increases the appetite. This imbalance can further lead to increased conversion of testosterone to estrogen. Estrogen, primarily a female hormone, is also present in men. Too much estrogen can cause an increase in bodyfat and water retention. Decreased energy and fatigue are common when this occurs.
In addition to assessing testosterone levels, our physicians will analyze many other hormones to ensure the best possible scenario for body fat loss, increased muscle mass, and overall health.
